What a thrilling experience Fill the Backpack was this year. We had the honor of working with Communities in Schools to share their amazing cause of helping at risk students to stay in school and find success.
Our sponsors were fabulous and we thank all of them for being a part of our promotion. It was so exciting to have such a variety of products and services to share with our readers.
Finally, we’re able to announce our winners! We gave away over 75 prizes at our #backpack11 twitter party and 8 bloggers gave away backpack prize packages, plus an additional one given away at our twitter party. And we’re not done! Splash Creative Media is hosting an additional party for one of our sponsors, Etymotic in October. Stay tuned to Splash Creative Media for more information.

Communities in Schools
Communities in Schools “empower students to stay in school and achieve life” by finding local community members to work with at risk students, showing them that there is a way to get out of their bubble, and their situation. Our bloggers commented that they received countless emails, blog comments, tweets and facebook mentions thanking us for introducing our readers to Communities in Schools. One of the most touching comments was on Just Precious from “MikeyR”:
I was almost a dropout. I went to 4 different high schools. We moved a lot. It was difficult for me to make friends and my self esteem was below average. When I moved out here to PA the guidance counselor told me that if I failed 1 class I wouldn’t graduate- a lot of the credits from prior high schools didn’t count because the programs weren’t offered here. I had to cram 4 years of high school classes into one year- my senior year. If it weren’t for the teaching staff and guidance counselors I probable would have dropped out of school. I think what CIS is a wonderful program and wish that more organizations were more like them perhaps more students would realize their potential and a cure for cancer might be found or a new species of underwater sea life. Who know what these amazing kids that they are helping will do with their lives. The opportunities are limitless!
While Fill the Backpack 2011 is concluding, Communities in Schools will continue to need help to help the over 1.3 million students it is currently serving.
You can help by mentoring, volunteering, donating, advocating and volunteering. Learn more about ways you can participate and help Communities in Schools.
